The crew of Liberator KG973 were killed on 3rd December 1944 when they collided with another Liberator, EW286, over Tavoy Point, Burma. 12 aircraft from 99 Sqn. were on their way to attack the railway station at Hnongpladuk in Siam. They were 5.5 hours into their flight when, at 15.27, the accident occurred over the Mergui archipeligo. One parachute is said to have been spotted. Names of all these crew members are to be found on the Singapore Memorial. The other 10 aircraft continued with their mission and returned safely - a total of over 14 hours.

F/Sgt. John Francis (Frank) GRIMSHAW, RAFVR, no. 1590681, age 19, son of Frank and Lavinia Grimshaw of Skipton, N. Yokshire. Singapore Memorial column 434. F/Sgt. Grimshaw voluteered in 1943, joining 99 Sqn. as a rear gunner. He left school at 14 and workded for a laundry in nearby Ilkley while studying elctrical and mechanical engineering at night school. As a boy he was a member of the Parish Church choir. Hearsay tells that Frank's mother could 'read' tea leaves and other forms of prediciting the future and many people went to her during that time. Like many mothers she is said to have 'felt' that something had happened to her son on that fateful day.

Hi Ruth, I'm afraid I don't have anything myself. Crews tended to rotate aircraft so unlike USAAF crews they didn't really have their "own" plane as such.
