No operational flying. The following messages were received from the Air Officer Commanding in Chief, Coastal Command:- “Please convey my warmest congratulations to the Captain and aircrew of B/120 upon their magnificent days work on 8 Dec. in support of convoy HX217. They showed the greatest skill and determination in making attacks by depth charge and cannon and machine gun fire on each of the 8 U-boats sighted and their efforts were crowned by the destruction of 1 U-boat which was confirmed by surface craft. This action undoubtedly saved the convoy from serious loss on 8 Dec. It reflects the greatest credit on all concerned and is from every point of view a very fine achievement. While all share in this great success I wish you to convey my special congratulations to S/Ldr. Bulloch and the Navigator F/O. Layton.”
