All airman carried them in case they got shot down. It was commonly referred to as a 'Goollie' chit. The name was derived from the fact that during the war in Abyssinia waged by Mussoliini if any Italian airmen were shot down and captured they were handed over to the native women who cut off their testicles and sewed them into the airman's mouth.
