Amendola, Italy

Picture taken by my American friend. Charles Hollenberg was a tail gunner on 2nd Bomb Group with which we shared the field all those years ago. Picture & Text Courtesy of John Bailey.

Christmas Day 44 photo of our tents in the snow at Amendola. Picture Courtesy of Tom Scotland, ex 614 Squadron.

Tents flooded by heavy rains. Country was flat so floodwater took some time to dissipate. Picture & Text Courtesy of Tom Scotland.

Our tents among the olive trees at Amendola, southern Italy 1944. We had no secluded place to sleep after ops so the noise of the Squadron awakening inevitably meant wakeup time for the flyers too. However we generally got back to sleep until lunchtime. Picture & Text Courtesy of Tom Scotland.

Amendola was an ex German Air Base. Attached is photo of JU88 wreckage. We met a lot of these guys in the night skies over Europe. They packed a very heavy punch. Picture & Text Courtesy of Tom Scotland.

Photo of 614 Squadron hospital at Amendola, for medical emergencies with Doctor Francis 2nd from left. Photo & Text Courtesy of Tom Scotland.
